Esteban Estrada will be performing his "ICONS:
The Lesbian and Gay
History of the
World, Vol. 1" at 7 p.m. Monday in the theater of
McCreless Hall.
The show is free to all students with a valid ID.
For non-students, a nonperishable food item or canned
goods donation will be accepted for admittance.
All donations collected will be presented to the San
Antonio Food Bank.
The San Antonio native is a singer, songwriter,
producer, comedian and actor.
His one-person show, "ICONS:
The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 1,"
created in September 2002, is his third show.
In it he plays notable figures in LGBT history such as
Michelangelo, Gertrude Stein and Ellen DeGeneres.
The 75-minute show is sponsored by the office of
student life and the Gay and Lesbian Association of San Antonio
College.
The event was planned by former GALA President Aiizaku
Buroun and Martha Castro, administrative secretary to Dean Alice
Johnson, club adviser.
The office of student life paid $2,000 of the
performance fee and the Fine Arts and Cultural Events Series
Committee paid $200.
"To advertise for the event at least 100 fliers
designed by Isabelle Burke have been posted around town and on the
Texas SpotLight Web site," said current GALA President William
Chandler.
GALA volunteers will be collecting food donations,
handling tickets, providing security and assisting at an autograph
booth and sales booth where fans can buy
Estrada's
CDs.
Estrada
also will be performing "ICONS:
The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 2" at
7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Metropolitan Community Church of San
Antonio at 611 E. Myrtle.
