I attended the one-man show
ICONS:
The Lesbian & Gay History of the World, Vol. 1, written and
performed by
Jade Esteban Estrada
and directed by Jeff Willis, for their third production at the Pantheon
Theatre in New York.
Estrada,
who released a dance album
"Angel"
in 2001, has performed is 28 countries and speaks 7 languages, is a
playwright, singer, director, choreographer, and spokesman for the Human
Rights Campaign. He won the 2002 Premio Estella from LLEGO in Washington
D.C. for worldwide excellence and visibility in the entertainment
industry as a gay Latin artist.
His
striking good looks and powerful voice fill the stage, and his
versatility allows him to transform between male and female as he
portrays Sappho, Michelangelo, Oscar Wilde, Gertrude Stein, Sylvia
Rivera and Ellen DeGeneres with amazing clarity through monolog, song
and dance. The show is witty, charming, and very entertaining.
