What do illegal immigrants, politicians, ESL
kinder gardeners, school teachers, unwed
mothers, bartenders, flight attendants, Dr.
Phil, opinionated grandmothers, gay cable
access talk show hosts and socialist taco
vendors all have in common? They make up the
face of 21st century Latinos in the United
States in the new solo play PICO DE GALLO.
Estrada has been praised by critics around
the country for his skillful onstage
transformations. The San Antonio Current
enthusiastically refers to the creators as
"extravagantly talented."
Pico de Gallo made its world premiere at the
Gladish Cultural Arts Center in Pullman,
Washington on February 28, 2007 as part of
La Semana de la Raza for Washington State
University's Chicano/Latino Center. The
production starred
Jade Esteban Estrada.

TESTIMONIALS:
"Pico
de Gallo is really great! It is like
Jade said - the
show is a mirror that reflects the
different aspects of the Latino
culture and what we see in society,
on TV, in the news.
Tortilla Heaven is
great. The characters are fun and
lovable and for those of us who've
lived in the U.S. for multiple
generations, it puts us in their
shoes and allows us to see things
from their perspectives. The show
exposes several prejudices in a
humorous way that challenges you
without confronting you directly.
Pico de
Gallo goes a step beyond. The
characters portray many of the
different faces of the Latino
world. It is fantastic because it
is full of humor but the issues the
characters present are real and
nothing is smoothed over. You
laugh and at the same time you are
challenged to think about what the
character is actually saying and
what it means. I love the way
comedy is used to reflect the truth
and how the show is entertaining,
educational, and provoking all at
the same time.
Jade does
an awesome job of bringing the
characters to life. I love how by
changing his voice, body language,
and mannerisms he becomes a
completely different person. It is
amazing and even if he wore the same
costume the whole show each
character would still be a unique
individual.
It was a
privilege to work with him. I had
fun and he taught me a lot, in the
way he handled the technical
difficulties and didn't let them
upset him or affect the show, by his
kindness to everyone and the genuine
interest he takes in the people he
meets for a short period of time and
will probably never see again."
