Laredo, Texas

Howdy! It's been at least five years since I've performed at Average Joe's in Laredo. Tonight my openers were Sonia Trevino (guest), Rick Cano (host), Mario "Superstar" Salazar (feature) and Stephen Sosa (guest). Tonight was the first time I've ever gotten a batch of roses given to me by a fan in the middle of a joke.

Thank you, Laredo, for always making me feel pretty.

Next stop: Horseshoe Bay, Texas! I didn't know there was a Horseshoe Bay, Texas either!

Houston, Texas

I've been focusing on my singing vocals in all of my shows over the summer and tonight I got some great feedback from fans after the show and online about my vocal performance. Taking care of my voice and my health when I'm on the road (which is never easy) are things I've been giving more attention. Thank you, Houston, for two sold-out shows! I'll see you next week at Prohibition Supperclub.

Isla, Malta

I think it's something very special for a singer when they get to hear the sound of their voice in a foreign land performing for people from the other side of the world. That's what I thought when I was singing tonight at the show. Malta is beautiful and rich with history. I've had such a great tour so far. Thank you to my producer Undine LaVerve for casting me in this show!

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

You know, there are some burlesque festivals that I'm happy doing just once. This is the second time I've taken part in the Florida Burlesque Festival and, like last year's event, it's left me with wonderful memories and much more. Thank you to Bambi LaFleur for taking such good care of me and trusting me to make her two-day festival a success. To the fans - I have no words. You make all the hard work it takes to do this business of show absolutely worth it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love, support and laughter.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

I flew in from Frankfurt last night and it feels like I've been away from America for 100 years! I could smell the blue ocean the moment I got off the plane.

Tonight's show was so grand! It's only the first evening of the 2nd Annual Florida Burlesque Festival but we had a brilliant opening! We had lots of press in the house and lots of fans and there were many burlesque artists in the line-up that I've not met before. They were all incredible! Looking forward to tomorrow night!

August 28, 2015

Edinburgh, Scotland

Today was the final day of performances for me at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and I couldn't be more pleased with the experience. I started off the day with a performance of Juan Bobo and Friends: Latin American Folktales which is a show I've grown to love so very much. Then I did a guest spot in The People's TV Show at a venue called Fingers Piano Bar, then I did a performance of The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs back at the New Waverley Arches, then I did the Laugh Train Home Showcase (and met some brilliant comedians) at Dropkick Murphy's and my final appearance was in Sex, Hugs and Gender Roles - which was one of the most interesting panel discussion shows I've seen or been a part of in a while.

I had a great time, Scotland! Thank you for being so good to this silly American.

Next stop: Aachen, Germany.

I feel very honored to be here at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This morning I performed my show Juan Bobo and Friends: Latin American Folktales, then did another guest spot in Mary Bourke's Funny for a Grrl. Later that night I performed in a production I feel is one of the most important shows on my itinerary: Immigrant Diaries.

One more day of fringe mania before I return to Germany. What an incredible experience this has been for me as an artist. Thank you, Scotland.

I am so elated after performing tonight at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival! This evening I performed at Sex, Hugs and Gender Roles and Smut Slam Cabaret. What a thrill it was to perform my Napoleon Bonaparte boylesque number in Scotland! This morning was another performance of Juan Bobo and Friends. I had Dutch and German audience members in the house.

Tomorrow promises another day of British theatrical glory!

August 25, 2015

Edinburgh, Scotland

What an incredible day. I debuted my solo show Juan Bobo and Friends: Latin American Folktales at the 2015 La Favorita Festival in Edinburgh. Right away I was overwhelmed by the energy of the city and saw so many of my friends from Perth, Australia.

Later that afternoon, I did a guest appearance in Mary Bourke's Funny for a Grrrl show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I closed with Taylor the Latte Boy. The audience seemed to really enjoy it. Then I performed in Blues and Burlesque: What the Funk with my dear friends from London, Scarlett Belle and Vicious Delicious. Our venue, the Caley Bar, is located in the ritzy Waldorf Astoria-Caledonian Hotel. Scottish grandeur at its best!

I can already tell that this week is going to be mad - in a brilliant way!

JADE

August 1, 2015

Cleveland, Ohio

Tonight was the Saturday Night Gala of the 2015 Ohio Burlesque Festival at Beachland Ballroom. I have this tiny, vague recollection of performing in Cleveland at some point in the 1990s but it's not coming to me. My burlesque engagements last year and tonight, however, are the most I currently recall of this wonderful city. It was so nice to see Bazuka Joe and Matt Knife again. Backstage is a full-on family reunion. I had a pretty good show. I'll be doing a lot of The Napoleonic Load this year. I'm looking forward to doing it in Poland, New Zealand and Malta. It feels good to share this number with new audiences. It feels even better to see it improve. Many thanks to Bella Sin for inviting me to Cleveland again. She's a jewel.

I know I sound like a broken record but it's been a great year! I am so grateful to my family, friends and mentors.

It's time to go again. I have a rehearsal in Killeen, Texas with my quince cast. I've had a really lovely weekend. God bless this great country that I get to see from coast to coast, ever so often.

This just in: I will be performing The Napoleonic Load at the 2016 Como Lake Burlesque Festival! So I'll be back in Italy again in a little over twelve months time. Awesome.

All my love,

JADE

Today was the perfect burlesque day. I taught my class Beyond the Tease: Acting for Burlesque at All That Glitters Burlesque Academy and then hosted the opening night of the 2nd Annual Oregon Burlesque Festival at Funhouse Lounge here in Portland. It was nothing short of a brilliant evening! Many thanks to Tana the Tattooed Lady and Holly Dai for inviting me to perform again. They are the guardians of burlesque in PDX! Oh, and I got to see Romeo Bedwell! He's my favorite!

It's time to get my booty to Cleveland for the Ohio Burlesque Festival.

Thank you, Portland! Good night!

Houston, Texas

What a special night! It was the 6th anniversary show for the Ruby Revue Burlesque at House of Blues - in the Music Hall! I love playing that room. You, know, I'm so happy that I crossed paths with these wonderful performers. I was also reunited with my co-host Miss V Haven! I never seem to have another dressing room time with her. She always makes me laugh. Happy Anniversary, ladies! Here's to seven more years! Tonight was fun! Our special guest was the beautiful Stormy Gayle from Los Angeles!

Tomomorrow night, I'm back at Prohibition Supperclub. How rare to be in Houston for two nights in a row! I'm hardly complaining!

Austin/San Antonio, Texas

Today was a very diverse day. I suppose my days are always diverse - but this one took the cake. I, to my surprise, won the $250 monthly drawing from Kick Butt Coffee in Austin! I know! How exciting! Thomas R. Gohring, the owner of the venue does these very creative photo shoots with the winners. Today I did my shoot on their beautiful new stage. Stay tuned for the fabulous images that materialized! I can't even imagine how I'm going to spend the $250! I hope my friends and fans will help me decide.

Later that evening, I joined my editors from the San Antonio Current for the San Antonio Association of Hispanic Journalists 16th Annual Scholarship and Awards Gala. Scholarships were giving to young writers and lifetime achievement awards were given to Michael Quintanilla of the San Antonio Express-News and singer Vikki Carr. It was such an honor to be invited to attend this inspiring event.

Time to hit the road again for more of my Tacos and Vodka Tour! Next stop: Houston!

July 9, 2015

San Antonio, Texas

Tonight was truly a special night. I became one of the first male comedians to ever join the nationally-touring Queer Queens of Comedy at Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club! This was my first time sharing the stage with Poppy Champlin and Sandra Valls. This was my second time sharing the stage with the phenomenal Vickie Shaw. Man, did she rock the house! We did Fredericksburg Pride in Virginia back in 2006. We were just kids back then!

On a gay Latino note, I find it extraordinary that it's taken Sandra and I this long to cross paths. Where has she been all my life? She's absolutely wonderful and a great singer! He's a picture of the line-up right before show time:

Oh, and we even got a backstage visit from comedian Mike Robles (and his Emmy award).

A huge crowd attended the show , mostly lesbian couples. I'd not had a Sapphic audience like that to entertain since Jacksonville Pride 2001. Yes, I remember it vividly!

Thanks for the standing ovation, San Antonio! Until next time!

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

You know, being here on Carson Street in Pittsburgh is starting to feel like another home to me. I love it here and I love working with my burlesque sister Kat de Lac. Tonight I was the emcee for the 2015 Pin-Up Perfection Pageant at the Hollywood Theater. Congrats to The Irresistable O from Detroit for taking home the crown! Later that night, I had another gig at Blue Moon, a local LGBTQ bar. Here's a pic from some front row fans!

San Antonio, Texas

A few weeks ago, while I was performing at the Windy City Burlesque Festival in Chicago, I passed the window of a charming novelty shop near Clark and Belmont that had hundreds of small, interesting items on display. As I was walking by at full speed, I suddenly stopped, looked to my lower right and saw this card staring at me.

I took it as a sign. Today, I'm so thrilled to announce that I've been selected to perform at the 2015 New Zealand Burlesque Festival on 10/9 as part of my Tacos and Vodka World Tour. I'm so glad I took a picture of this little card.

Today is also the day my piece entitled "Bisexuals Still Trying to Find Their Place Within LGBT Family" is published in the San Antonio Current's Pride Issue.

What a fabulous welcome back to San Antonio today turned out to be! I had such a marvelous time co-hosting the 2015 United America Pageant with Priscilla Fletcher from Austin. It was great to see so many familiar faces on stage and in the audience! Loved seeing Suzanna Brown, Patricia Jimenez and Kerry Valderrama judge this pageant! Looks like I'll be hosting the statewide pageant in October. It's always a pleasure being back in the old Josephine Theatre.

I will tell you right now that it will be impossible to put into words how fabulous a time I had tonight at Stage 773 for the Windy City Burlesque Festival. It is just impossible! It was amazing! First of all my fellow performers for Classic Burlesque Night were part of a line-up made in heaven. I adored meeting Dottie Dangerfield! Here is a pic of my partner in crime Freaky Candy as we make our way to the festival:

June 2, 2015

San Antonio, Texas

Tonight was a special night. I was invited by the San Antonio Public Library to take part in a panel discussion on coming out experiences with four other LGBTQ artists. The panel included the glorious Tencha La Jefa, Jenn Alva (bassist for the band Girl in a Coma), Saakred, Dino Foxx and myself. Special thanks to Joel Bangilan for moderating. It was nice to see so many familiar faces in the house including my sister Olga Alvina Estrada and my activist friend Robert Vargas III. Here is a pic of Robert and I here:

Times have changed in this awesome world we inhabit. Suddenly it seems that the stories about the cultural challenges LGBTQ people experienced in the last quarter of the 20th century, both everyday and professional, have newly-discovered worth for young people. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to share a bit of myself on the eve of what could be a momentous occasion for human rights in my country. You never know when or how you can have a positive effect on someone just by being yourself.

Many thanks to the Rivard Report and Out in SA for covering the event.

Next stop: Las Vegas!

Houston, Texas

Houston has been in the national spotlight lately for all the flooding that's been taking place in many Texas areas. About three hours before show time, we got hit in downtown Houston with incredible rainfall. We even had a leak on the stage! Not all of the Moonlight Dolls were able to make it for the first show (they were stuck in flooded locations) but we were a full-cast for the second show. I admire our audiences (two sold-out houses) for not letting the terrible weather get in the way of their Saturday night entertainment!

Next stop: San Antonio!

Tonight was the final performance of Hollywood Havana and the last appearance for myself and the world-famous Jigglewatts Burlesque Revue at the Gibson Guitar Lounge at Maggie Mae's in Austin. What memories I will have of this venue! Thank you, Austin, for your support. Thank you to Coco Lectric and Ruby Joule for believing in me and allowing me to be the voice of the troupe during this two and a half-year residency.

It was such a pleasure having the gorgeous Havana Hurricane join us for the last one all the way from England! Love her!

I felt so great about tonight's shows at Prohibition Supper Club in Houston. My new material went over wonderfullly. But after the second show, the night was about to get better. We had Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner in the audience! Yes, Hawkeye from The Avengers! He came backstage and said, "Hey, what's up, lip gloss!" Then he gave me a great big hug! It was amazing! Here is a pic we all took backstage:

Thanks to Trinity University, I was able to indulge in one of my favorite playwrights tonight. Their theatre department chose Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters as the final production of their 2014-2015 season! I loved this new adaptation by Sarah Ruhl (My last experience writing about Ruhl was in 2012 with Vibratorgate). Here's a pic of me fan crushing on the statuesque leads. (Left to right) Brady Iba played Andrei, Sasha Faust played Masha, Catherine Clark played Olga and Inka Boehm played Irina.

Kate Cuellar was absolutely phenomenal in the role of Chebutykin. This young actress truly transformed into an old man. It was so admirable.

Sasha, one of the more complicated characters in this piece, played one of the best Mashas I've seen.

Courtney Justus played the 80-year-old maid who's no longer able to work and is harshly called out by Natasha, the new lady of the house. With gratitude and enthusiasm, Justus later talks about how the Russian goverment has given her an apartment, painting a picture of the inital advantages of the coming communist environment.

At the Q & A session after the performance, Katie Farrell, who played the haughty Natasha, said something that echoed in my mind. She said, "Natasha is the only [character in the play] who gets what she wants."

No wonder everyone is always drinking vodka in this play.

Kudos to Rachel Joseph for directing an excellent production. I understand the Classic Theatre of San Antonio will be presenting The Seagull in their next season. Can't wait!

After my whirlwind adventure in Tucson and Los Angeles, I 'm happy to be back within in the now unfamiliar walls of my dressing room at Rivercenter Comedy Club. I have such a colorful history with this place. However, I wish they hadn't repainted the green room. In the past, every comic who'd ever been in it wrote something on the wall with a black Sharpie. I think it gave the room some character. Now it's all gone. I'm making new memories this week with Joey McCormick (our handsome host) and Brad Lowery from Showtime at the Apollo. (Fun fact: I sang at the Apollo Theatre in 1999!) This is our opening night pic:

Today is my last day in Perth. Our plane leaves late this evening. I am happy that I'm finally going back to the United States but I feel sad leaving behind all of the wonderful friends I've made here in Western Australia and I can't even count all of the amazing experiences I've had.

This afternoon, I was a guest in the production of Voices in my Bread starring the Oh the Humanity Improv Troupe. The audience gave me a word and I had to tell a story about myself regarding that word. My word was "ship." The first thing that came to mind is my Spider-man story of climbing up the ropes of a mammoth cruise ship in Copenhagen, Denmark. What a great memory I got to relive in public. I have to start packing.

Farewell, Perth! Until we meet again.

Now that I'm in the swing of things with Hollywood Havana, I've started to explore the festival a lot more. Some of the guests in our show have shows of their own and I've been making the trek (the festival is not all in one place) to see them in their element. Oh, I'm having the time of my life in this summer heat! One of our audience members tonight was from Germany.
